How to Build a Solid Business on Investycoon: The Method

The 4-step guide to launching your business, producing, scaling up, and automating production in Investycoon.

In Investycoon, there's no secret formula: the best businesses are built on the same fundamentals as in real life — a product, cash flow, scaling, and automation. Here's the method, step by step, with concrete examples straight from the game.

1. Pick a sector and start simple

You don't need a perfect plan to get started. Pick a simple sector: mineral extraction or logging.

Each sector has its own production chain. It's better to know yours well than to try to do everything at once from the start.

Avoid steel manufacturing or the oil industry: capital requirements are considerably higher for a beginner.

2. Produce before you invest

Before you even pick up a mining pick, there's real research work to do: not all plots of land are equal. You need to identify and buy land with real resource potential before you can exploit it. A badly chosen plot means weak production or resources that run out fast — take the time to scout good plots before investing in them.

Once you've secured the right plot, stable cash flow comes first from your core activity, not from a lucky break. Start by extracting your first raw resources:

  • Stone, iron ore, copper ore, or coal with a pickaxe,
  • Wood with an axe,

Sell on the common market to build up your first capital. At this stage, the goal isn't maximum margin, but a steady flow of cash.

3. Scale up: a more efficient machine, or vertical integration

Once your cash flow is stable, you have two real options:

  • Get more efficient at extraction. Replace your pickaxe with a drilling machine, or your axe with a chainsaw: same raw resource, but much higher output for the same effort.
  • Expand downstream. Instead of selling your raw iron ore, invest in a blast furnace to turn it into steel yourself. You're no longer capturing just the extraction margin, but also the steelmaking margin — and you control a bigger slice of the market.

Don't have the means yet to invest in a drilling machine or a blast furnace? A well-sized loan can finance that equipment without waiting until you have all the cash up front — as long as you repay it with the income it generates, not with your reserves.

4. Automate and delegate

The best businesses don't rely on a player micromanaging every click. Whether you're working with a basic tool or a more efficient machine, you can assign it a robot employee who will take over and work automatically in your place, without you having to click for every extraction or transformation.

This delegation is what frees up your time to focus on strategy rather than repetitive manual actions: watching the market, financing your next piece of equipment, or launching a new line of business.

Method summary

  • Start simple: one sector, one company, one first activity.
  • Produce before you invest: cash flow comes from the activity, not speculation.
  • Scale up: a more efficient machine or vertical integration (steelmaking) to capture more margin and more market.
  • Borrow with discipline: a loan should finance an asset that earns more than it costs.
  • Automate: assign a robot employee to free yourself from manual clicking and focus on strategy.

FAQ – Building a solid business on Investycoon

Which sector should I start with on Investycoon?

There's no universally best sector. Mineral extraction and logging are accessible from the start with a simple tool (pickaxe, axe) and require little starting capital.

Should I take out a loan right at the start of the game?

No. It's better to first generate an initial cash flow with your activity, then borrow to finance a more efficient machine or the vertical integration of your business (steelmaking).

What's the difference between a tool and a machine?

Both can be operated manually by the player, or assigned to a robot employee who will work automatically in their place. The real difference is efficiency: a machine (drilling machine, chainsaw, blast furnace) produces significantly more than a basic tool (pickaxe, axe) for the same amount of work.
